Baguio City is surrounded by Benguet Province, in Cordillera Administrative Region, on Luzon in the Philippines.

Baguio City bills itself as the cleanest, greenest, highly industrialized (?!) city in the Philippines.
However, in 2001, the World Bank published a study finding Baguio City to be the “most polluted city” among five cities in the Philippines, based on air samples collected at Session Road.
The city’s air reportedly had 75.2 micrograms of particles per cubic meter, Metro Manila had 65.8, Cebu City had 45 and Davao City had 39.8 mcg/cm.

Bombay Bazar [sic] building was damaged by the 1991 earthquake, but Baguio City left the wreckage standing until now. From November until I left Baguio in March they slowly dismantled it by hand. They hammered at the cement ruins of the building and pulled out the reinforcing iron rods to recycle. In March they still weren’t done. I guess they wanted all the Panagbenga visitors to see the ruin and rubble.
