On this date in 1869, a golden spike was driven at Promontory, Utah, marking the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the United States.
"When did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give to you drink? And when did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?
